Re: John Soto - 3rd AL Inf., Co.A

Dear Homer, Alan, and others,

Thanks for the information. Tell me a little more about the "Mobile Cadets". I've reviewed all of the old postings about this unit and the 3rd Alabama and know this unit was both a pre- and post-war organization. Were the members of the Mobile Cadets, generally, of a certain "social class"?

This John Soto was the son of a cabinet-maker and apparently his mother and father divorced abt. 1840. The mother, Constance Camilla RONDEAU Soto, married a man of some means in 1841. This gentleman was named Adolph Renaud, sometimes shown in the Alabama census as "Raino".

I'm just curious if the social position of John Soto's step-father, might have had something to do with his membership in the "Mobile Cadets"?

Thanks,

Jim Martin in
