From the book you had mentioned; and another:
"In the latter part of December 1860, the Cadets,
with two other companies from Mobile were ordered
by Govenor Moore to take posession of Forts Morgan
and Gaines, at the entrance to Mobile Bay; and
hold them for the State of Alabama, pending action
of a State Convention to be held in Montgomery on
January 7, 1861" The Cadets remained at Fort
Morgan until April 3, 1861 when relieved by troops
organized under the Provisional Government of the
Confederate States.

And one for Jim: "The Mobile Cadets were composed
of the elite of Mobile and the wealthiest young
men of Alabama, and all of them from comfortable
circumstances and many immensley rich; it is said
their aggregate property amounts to be between three
and four million dollars"
