Confederates who died on this battlefield were buried by Federal soldiers in common trenches. Of courses Federals had no idea who individual men happened to be, nor could they have identified the dead even if anyone had thought to do so.

Federal sources named this battle Ezra Church for the little chapel at the angle in their line. Confederates also called it the Battle of the Poorhouse, and Battle of Lickskillet Road.
