Thanks. My folks most likley made the trek from Richmond to the Winchester area in early October of 1862. Not sure the O&A railroad was still open all the way to Manassas Jct. at that time ( at least to Confederates). I have often wondered how far north and for how long was the O&A open for the Confederates. Answering that question would help me understand where my folks got off of the O&A train and started heading to the west ( Winchester). Of course, my folks may have taken the RR from Gordonsville to Staunton and then hoofed it down the valley. Just don't know.
