Re: Prattville Dragoons Sabre

Hi Alan,
The sword in question is a Model 1840 Ames artillery sword/saber with an 1846 date (Cabotville, MA). On the right facing knuckle bow is nicely punched (in large block letters) Co H 3d A. On the right facing hilt are crudely marked Roman Numerals LXIV (64). I have wanted to visit Prattville, AL (and bring it with me), but as yet, it hasn't worked out. I'm way too busy. I think the other post written by Johnny asks a great question as to whether it may mean Arkansas. It will take a real expert who may have seen marks like it before. I wouldn't stake my life on it, but I really believe the sword and the marks to be authentic. It has genuine aging, not like the fakes that are out there. What is your area of expertise Alan?...if I may be so bold. I have only been at the collecting game a couple of years, but I have learned so much in that short time...I sure love it so! Thank you for your help & interest.
Chuck
