George -- Thank you very much for posting this information on the 14th Alabama Infantry Regiment. My g-g-g-grandfather, Elijah Beaird of Chambers County, AL, enlisted in the Hickory Flat company in July 1861. Despite the horrific battles of the 14th, he served until the end of the war (and despite being wounded at the Battle of the Wilderness 6 May 1864 -- injuries unknown so far). Apparently, Elijah Beaird was either a really great soldier, or knew how to hide!
