Dennis, let me just say I'm impressed and grateful for the time and detail you put into answering this query of mine. Jimmie or James Reden Tolar, the son of William H. Tolar/Toler, was my grandfather's father that died when my grandfather was only 11 and the reason we have few stories passed to us from that family. "Tolar" was the spelling the family kept, going back to John Tolar Sr. who moved from Virginia to Cumberland County, NC just after the Revolutionary War. One of the difficulties to overcome is that census personnel and other govt officials often write the name wrong. On top of that, when the name is spelled correctly, the person entering computer metadata on the scanned doc gets it wrong. However, when you look actual scanned land deeds and wills (where matters are much closer to the individual Tolar) then you see the correct spelling. Again, thank you sir for helping me flesh out my heritage!
