Hello Dennis, Van, and all contributing,

I just had to chime in! I am researching my 3rd great uncle Oliver Duncan McVicker and repeatedly have been led to this thread after searching adding different search criteria in a browser. Ironically, Oliver signed up, was captured in Hunstsville, Camp Chase, Vicksburg etc... with Co. K 9th Louisiana Infantry/ Co. M2 12th Louisiana Infantry. I finally decided I HAD TO RESPOND when I saw O.D. McVicker directly opposite W. R. "Tollar" on the list of prisoner's received from Louisville, Kentucky under Capt. Dillard!

I am still unfolding his story, he was injured in action at the Battle of [Battle?] Creek. In 1864, he died at General Hospital #2 in Eufaula, Alabama. I have yet to find where he's buried. I'm having to create a timeline to track where he was and when.

Also, Oliver's brother and my ancestor, John W. McVicker, had a son, Robert Duncan McVicker (meaning Robert is Oliver's nephew). Robert also served with Oliver and though I have not started my in depth investigation on Robert, they were together for the most part.

Finally, I live in the same town that is the Home of The General. Yes, that one... the locomotive from the Great Locomotive Chase. The museum where she sits is about 5 miles from my house and I'm equidistant from Marietta, the Depot, The Kennesaw House where the Raiders stayed and met in Andrew's room after learning Mitchell was not delayed, and Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park.
