Thanks for the reply. His name was John Harlow. He was originally from North Georgia, but was living in Butler County, Ala. when the War began. He enlisted in "Captain Goldsmith's Independent Company" an Alabama Home Guard Unit in 1861. That's the only card in his Compiled Service Record. I knew, from my grandmother, that he drew a soldier's pension and that his right arm was paralyzed from a bullet wound. I found his pension records (Georgia) a couple of years ago. That's the only record I can find that connects him to the 22nd AL Infantry. The pension was granted, so I assume he was able to prove his service.
