Alan,
You are correct as always! Thank you for asking for clarification I did not mean to imply my ancestor was in the 1863 Campaign. According to my ancestor's service records and family tradition, he lost a rifle sling during operations near Vicksburg and it was deducted from his muster out pay.According to the Histories of the 13th that I have they were in Vicksburg area in 1864, and they did not remain long in the area. My wife's ancestors were in the same general, area, but to my knowledge they were not ever engaged in combat against each other. (did not mean to imply that they were opposing forces in combat, only opposing forces in the same area.
Jim, I apologize for dropping my opinion over the edge of wild and woolly!!!!! I am responding to Alan's very important questions and comments. I admire and welcome his vast knowledge and his very valauble input. He is one of the very fine researchers and contributors here.
i know that you and alan and bryan, want to make sure that the information found here is factual and as accurate as possible.
Alan,
I agree with your reenactor about the accuracy on reenacting. As you indicate at most points, the Confederates were equal size or greatly outnumbered. That is why it is important for all reenactors to be willing to portray the other side when necessary, and that was the only point I was trying to make.
I do not mean to rag on those who do not feel the way I do nor do I want to insult or offend anyone.
If I have I apologize profusely..!!!!!
