You should take a look at the encyclopedia of Arkansas History and Culture online. The 1850s - Reconstruction are covered and it is enough to make you sick.

I just bought the book, Rebellion and Realignment, Arkansas's Road to Secession. It was published by the U of A Press in Fayetteville. I am hoping it is not as biased as I think it might be.
