Excellant post, of a complex situation.

I really don't think Richmond was aware of the reality within the Trans-Mississippi Department. This is one of the reasons why the Trans Mississippi seemed to get the cast-off commanders like Holmes and Magruder from the east, rather than a good commander like Cleburne.
