All I know is that I was told it was down on the river. I had assumed the Mr. Wright who owned
the plantation was a probably a grandson of the original family. I know from the oral family
history that he conducted himself that way.
Somewhere I have a picture of the guys who were working at the Wright Plantation sitting
around an open fire. I have the names too. My aunt who lived to be nearly 102 and
must have drank lots of coffee as her mind was so clear, gave me the photo and told me
who everyone was years and years ago. The men had families that lived at England, Arkansas.
I had known of the place called Pastoria because my grandfather Temple's sister Ora (who was
related to both the Vaughn and Terry families out of Pulaski County, some of whom are
buried at Mt. Holly) taught school there a long time ago. So that meant there were enough
White people at the time to have a White school.
From what I was told, the bosses were White and the workers were nearly all Black on the
Wright Plantation.
Mr. Wright basically ran the place as if time stood still. Now that is not to say he was unkind
to anyone. He would have to have been a person of good character for my grandfather to have
respected him. He in turn must have respected my grandfather to let him be the last hired hand
to leave. That was always told with sadness.
So be honest, I plan to check into this more-meaning some research if possible-and I will get
back with you. I was always interested and since I am retired, I guess I can follow up on this.
