Doug,
There was only three routes possible. One due south (County road 50) to Hwy. 19 and then to Hwy. 299 or southeast down Cale Rd. to Hwy. 299 or due east on Hwy. 24 to Bluff City. The Bluff City route would have been the easiest traveled due to less bottom land. However, that route would have been very open to hostilities as would County Road 50. The Cale Rd. route was probably the worst road to take due to Terre Rouge swamps, however, no flanking dangers, just rear guard skirmishes. There are seven bridges between Moscow Church and county road 41 and the bottoms flood just about spring and fall. Reports were that the Union army left baggages, wagons and other materials along the road taken to Camden. I can't imagine moving that many troops through those swamps that I've hunted in for years. I'm not familiar with Harmony Methodist Church (probably seen it many times). Where is it located? Hope this information is helpful.
