I took myself off line for a few weeks, in order to work on some unfinished research that required my undivided attention. When I was stationed in Washington DC a few decades ago, I spent many weekends at the National Archives and Library of Congress, transcribing, among other things, everything I could lay my hands on regarding the 8th Arkansas Infantry, including the complete Compiled Service Records collection. All done with pencil and paper, back before the era of personal computers. I recently ran across my old papers and decided to enter them into my computer. I had forgotten just how screwed up the CSRs of the 8th Arkansas were. Apparently, succeeding officers were not provided with copies of past muster rolls, so they had to reinvent the wheel for just about every muster roll. As a result, dates of enlistment, dates of rank, dates of admission to hospitals, etc., etc., change from time to time. So, I sat myself down and went through all the rolls from beginning to end and got them straightened out. I also ran across some casualty lists for Shiloh, Murfreesboro and Chickamauga, as well as orders and correspondence. Anyway, I'm back on line again, and will try to get caught up on my emails.
