If we go by your duck logic, then all of the ANV pattern flags you posted earlier in this thread, all of those would have been manufactured in Richmond, which I’m guessing you know better.

(If the 46th's flag didn't come from Charleston, where did it come from?) Since, so far, there is not a documentary tail, it remains unknown.

If you go by the theory they received it from QM department of Walkers Division, then one may presume that the sister regiments of the 46th did also but what happened to them, they carried a 12 star pattern flag, odd that they are the odd regiment out, the flag is in good shape to be battle weary for a year. Maybe, the one captured near Fort Blakely was a secondary regimental flag and their 12 star was beyond repair.

The Mobile Depot was not far from their location, they could have order a custom flag from the depot or other individual and paying for it out of regimental funds but since the document trail is not or been found, there is no way to tell, that is why I was interested in Greg’s claim, not misleading quotes from Howad’s book.

To post a short list of flags, that was claimed to be similar to the 46th’s flag, was a bit misleading. I quit checking the list when one was claimed to not have a blue header but it does have it, two others claim no sleeve header but they do. One was claimed in this class of Charleston flag, on the obverse yes but a deferent story on the reverse of the flag.
