Ken and I saw this flag several years ago at the Children's Museum in Oak Ridge, TN. It is NOT the same flag that Heritage offered nor is it the same flag of the same Macon Depot pattern held by the MOC (the latter two belong to the 1st or 3rd Georgia Reserves).

It was my research that IDd the flag as the 19th South Carolina, confirmed by Lee White, an expert on SC troops in the Army of Tennessee, who confirmed for me that the regiment passed through Macon in 1865 after the Tennessee Campaign heading to North Carolina. This was based on the documents that I got copies of when I saw the flag - it came from a soldier of the 19th South Carolina. A researcher in Alabama at Wallace State University, Bob Davis, found the payrolls in the National Archives proving that the Macon Depot made flags in 1864 and later as he saw the payroll vouchers for them issued to women (I wish he had copied them!!!!). The flags of the 1st and 3rd Georgia Reserves were both captured in battles in and around Macon by units of James Wilson's Cavalry Corps.

The late Howard Madaus said that it took three flags of a type to make a pattern so we now have three flags of this type. Howie did not know about the 19th SC flag sadly.
