I have the Fox letter from 7/4 also and knew it was not there. If it is one of his letters it is likely postwar as the statement would only have been made after the war. I have ordered the index to the Fox letters. Like you, I checked Ladley as well. Funny thing is they did get another flag in late 1864 I believe and that is the National colors preserved today. Tom I don't know if you are in a position to share the source on the 6th NC as I would be very interested in them as they were the next unit to the left of the 8th Louisiana in the twilight attack. I'll let you know what I find, if anything, from the Fox letters and/or Baumgartner's book. Am knee deep in Gettysburg right now and glad to share any sources with you.
