The 75th OVI DID capture a "Tiger" flag and they DID tear it to pieces. A descendant of Pvt. Andrew Jackson told me this several years ago and also said that there was a remnant of the flag in a frame over the mantle in his cousin's house. He shared photographs and bio for Pvt. Jackson and he is a true Soldier of the Regiment.

The 75th had its National Colors captured on East Cemetery Hill. Maj. Geo. Benson Fox confirms this through letters to his father asking for a new flag for the Regiment. He asks this in Sept./Oct. '63 from Folly Island, SC. (The Regiment was w/o Colors after Gettysburg because the Regimental was captured at Chinn's Ridge @ 2nd Bull Run).

About the turn of the last century at a National G.A.R. Convention in Michigan, I believe, a letter was read from a Confederate Veteran's group stating that the flag of the 75th OVI was in their possession and that no one, since the end of the war, had claimed it. This is the last thing ever mentioned about this flag and it has never been returned to the Ohio State House.

In November '64 the 75th was issued a new National flag. It was presented to "Col. Andrew Harris by Preble County, OH". This was upon the Regiment being mustered out and the late enlistees and Veterans making up a Veteran Battalion which remained in Florida and S.C. until the end of the war.

Of note....The 75th was presented a flag in November 1861 by the citizens of Wyoming, Ohio....the home of their late Colonel Robert Reily who was killed at Chancellorsville. The stars were silver and in a star pattern. The flag is on display in Wyoming. Fox even asks his father to see if he could send THIS flag to the Regiment.
