William H. Clark, age 23, Private, Company A, 5th Texas Infantry, enlisted March 25, 1862 at Houston, Tex. by Lt. J. E. Clute for the war, captured at South Mt. September 15, 1862, sent from Fort Delaware, Del. to Aikens Landing, Va. October 2, 1862, exchanged November 10, 1862, on extra duty as Color Bearer from July 14, 1863, wounded at Chickamauga, Tenn. September 19, 1863, gunshot wound right leg, admitted Receiving & Wayside Hospital, Richmond, Va. & Texas Hospital, October 7, 1863, transferred to Howard's Grove, Hospital, Richmond, October 14, furloughed November 7, 1864, absent on furlough in Virginia through the end of the year, appointed Ensign & severely wounded in the hand at the Battle of the Wilderness May 6, 1864, last recorded present on the Nov/Dec, 1864 F & S Muster roll, surrendered & paroled April 9, 1865 at Appomattox C. H., Va., resident of Columbia, S. C.

Sir, I have the honor to respectfully recommend that Private W. H. Clark Co. A 5th Texas Regt for gallant & meritorious conduct be appointed "Ensign" of said Regt. Private Clark has been Color Bearer since the Battle of Gettysburg July 63 & acting in that capacity was severely wounded at Chickamauga, Ga. He is now with his Command and in possession [?] of the Colors.

I have the honor to recommend that Sergeant Arthur ?. Bruce of Company "D" 6th Reg't of Texas Infantry be appointed by his Excellency the President, Ensign of the 6th Reg't of Texas Infantry.
Sergeant Arthur C. Bruce was enlisted on the 4th day of October 1861, is 26 years old, was born in the county of Matagorda, State of Texas, and is a resident of Texas.
