Re: Ensign 5th Texas Infantry ??

Hello,

George I think asked Josh why his ancestor was a color bearer/color sergeant was as such when the CSR for the man did not so state.

None of us can compare to Ken's research into color guards but that which I have done has shown that for the names that I have for color bearers/color guards in many cases do not have cards in their CSR's for being so. Why? I have no clue other than the US War Department did these after the war based on CS muster rolls. Thus, it would mean looking at the original muster rolls to see what they have for these men who were not so listed on the CSR cards.

Therefore, I do not look at the CSR cards as the final word for men who were color bearers/color guards. I think as Ken will tell us all, it takes a number of sources for this information.
