Re: You have seen Wheat's report?

Major Wheat's Report is reprinted in Broadfoot's Expanded version of the Official Records.

Most of the other letters were published in New Orleans newspapers of the period. A group of letters were published in the North West Louisiana Historical Society journal. I haven't found any sources from members of Wheat's Battalion that haven't been published.

I searched Nathan Evans' Compiled Service Records and they include a note to the effect that despite a number of requests the temporary commander of the Battalion, Captain R. A. Harris, had not produced a report. Evidence from Harris' CSR's indicates that his reluctance was probably because he was not the most literate of men.

Having someone on the ground at the LOC would be great. As I am in Australia most of my research happens at a distance. It'd be great to know what documents the LOC has about Wheat's Battalion. All the best with it Shawn.
