Wow, that is a huge find on the 123rd New York. The 12th Corps history claims the Corps "Never lost a flag or gun".

I found the 46th Pennsylvania lost their state flag and possibly their National as well. (War Department's returned colors).

I have never run across the 123rd NY losing a flag, but that is a huge help. I am working on all captured Union flags. I have the Confederate lists of flags they captured at Chancellorsville with many unknowns.

You diffenitly found something very rare. Chancellorsville was the 123rd New York's first battle. I have a 12 maps on the battle of Chancellorsville done back in 1998 by Frank O'Reilly. Regimental detail is fantastic. The 7th North Carolina or Lane's brigade looks like they may have captured this flag. (Time line from the maps).
