I think you may be right, as "Uncle Ed" Hillard, the last surviving Florida Brigade member (ANV), was from Polk County. But, I don't think they (the Polk County soldiers) are listed in any of the traditional sources as comprising a part of any of the companies of the 5th Florida. What I suspect happened was that a group of soldiers (15-20) went to one of the northern counties and and joined in a different county. As you are likely aware, Confederate records (especially from Florida) are sketchy in places. Of course, if Crute listed them, Jimmy and I should have caught the oversight. Mea culpa. Of course, the "Bulldogs" in the 7th Florida is Polk County's best known South Florida Confederate unit. Zack Waters
