Winston County aka Republic of Winston or the Free State of Winston in Noerthwest Alabama. Fellow named Chris Sheets was elected to represent Winston Co at the convention on secession. Sheets and others from surrounding couties voted against leaving the union but reasoned that if Alabama could quit the union they could quit Alabama. The "capitol" of Winston was headquartered at Bill Looney's Tavern, in Double Springs. Several attempts to subdue these folks by the home guard were twarted. There is/was an outdoor theatrical production during the summer called "Incidence at Looney's Tavern".
