Peter Garner has a service file as a member of Mallett's N.C. Battalion, Camp Guards (Camp Holmes). Evidently the battalion was disbanded and members assigned to front-line units in 1864. On May 27, 1864, Congressman Smith introduced a bill to legalize Mallett's Battalion, but evidently it failed to pass.
