Tom, can you please tell me if the list of Company C, 18th Georgia published in "The Early History of Jackson County, Georgia" in 1914 mentions anything about one of my great-great grandfathers, John L. Worsham of company C from Jackson County, GA? His compiled service record indicates he was a prisoner of war in 1864. I have a copy of a contradicting note written by one of his sons (William A. Worsham of Jackson County, GA) stating that his father was killed during the hotter part of the year in 1864. I’ve never been able to find any other proof that John L. Worsham was a prisoner of war, but I do know he never returned home and I’ve been trying to find out what actually happened to him. When I was a little boy I remember my grandmother telling me that one of my great-great grandfathers had been killed by his own men during the war and the men who killed him placed a large rock over his body, but I don’t know if John L. Worsham was the one she was referring to. I also don’t remember if she said he was killed by these men on purpose or by accident and whether or not they were trying to hide his body or just mark his grave. I don’t know if the story my grandmother told me actually occurred, but I would really appreciate any information anyone could share with me to help try to solve this mystery. Thanks! Ed
