Re: Cobb Guards, GA Infantry/22 BN GA Heavy Artill

John --

Since Henry County has a common boundary with the State of Georgia, men from Georgia enlisted in Henry County commands, and men from Henry County enrolled in Georgia commands. In 1861 an entire company from Henry County joined the 25th Georgia Regiment and later the 38th Georgia Regiment. At the time your ancestor enlisted (1863), Confederate recruiting officers were glad to find able-bodied adult white males from anywhere. As far as the recruiter was concerned, Holland could have been from New York, Minnnesota or California.

Guess no one in the family ever thought to ask about a pension application where all Confederate pension applications for Alabama residents would be found: State of Alabama Dept of Archives and History. He's also on the State of Alabama Confederate Veteran census of 1907.
