Alan, This whole thread goes back a while. At the time I originally posted this about Mary Mooty's head stone, I did not know if she was in the Nancy Hart's or not. I did not know if she was entitled to a veterans head stone even if she was in that group.
After a little research I could not find any roster of the women in that group, so I dismissed the idea that is how she got the headstone. In my questions to the VA I asked if veterans wives were entitled to a government issued stone. This is their answer to that: " At no time were wives of Confederate veterans eligible for government-issued headstones so we have to assume that the headstones shown in the photographs that you provided were ordered and paid for privately. " So even before I got this answer I got off on the subject of the variations in the sizes of the markers.
So to answer your question, there is no evidence that she was even in the Nancy Harts, and if the group was ever in service for the state of Georgia or the Confederate Service, I have to assume that the answer to that is no, unless someone can prove otherwise.
In some of our original posts, we discussed the 2nd Ga. Cav. and their duties as state guards or home guards. I have since gotten a complete history of companies
2nd Georgia Cav.. I will post that soon, and I will need your help and help from others on a few things in that history. I also have a lot of questions about the 37th. Which I will post soon also.
