Mr. Queen, I have several letters from Col. Hart's complied military service record. The letters are all dated post surrender, and seek to arrange for Hart's legal defense against the charge of murder. As commander of the 6th Georgia, Hart was held accountable for the regiment's killing of two union prisoners. I assume, but do not know for fact, that the killings were the same as those reported in an August, 2002, issue of American History. The article is titled "Death to All Foragers" and was written by Mark Dunkelman. I don't know the outcome of Hart's legal case. I can mail you copies of the letters and the magazine article. Col. John R. Hart is certainly an enigmatic and fascinating character. If you or any other readers of this site have any information about him, or the 6th Ga, I would love to hear from you.
