Sir,

Additional information I found. The problem with the book is that it is not indexed.

Order of Merit in the various classes:

Math: 25 of 28.
French: 8 of 28.
Drawing: 27 of 28.
English: 19 of 28.

Demerits for the year. 74.

1853 Conduct Roll. # 79 of 82. Demerits 74.

Ouch. He did well in French which impressed the ladies and may have added to the demerits.

I can relate. I have to chuckle because I was having terrible marriage problems which resulted in divorce when I was a ROTC Cadet. My academics sucked my Freshman and Sophomore years but ROTC is the one subject I received an "A" in. I clicked over 20 years back in September and I am about to start my Master's Thesis to complete my M.A. in Military History with a concentration in Civil War Studies.

Respectfully,
