Re: GMI added info for G. Harvey Thompson

Mr. Hodge,

Many thanks for the info. George Harvey Thompson was the son of Dr. Joseph Thompson, a leading citizen of Atlanta and owner/operator of the Atlanta Hotel. Thompson was the first captain of Atlanta's Gate City Guards, and was commissioned by Governor Brown as a captain in the Georgia State Army. He was elected to Major of the First Georgia Infantry (Ramsey's) on April 3, 1861, and was promoted to Lt. Colonel on December 11. After the regiment mustered out on March 10, 1862, his record becomes very hard to locate. The only info I've been able to come up with was that he died in service on December 18, 1864.

Seems as though I have seen a couple of references about Thompson being popular with the ladies before the war.
