Re: Major A.S. Cabell, AQM; Wells' Battn ?

Patti,
It is still my opinion that the notations on the originals were written retrospectively. At the time of writing (e.g., June 30, 1863), A.S. Cabell was a major though at the time the individual came under his command as quartermaster (e.g. Jan. 3, 1863) he was officially a captain.

Capt. A.S. Cabell was stationed at Paris TX in late 1862 but on Jan 3, 1863 he took up residence at Bonham. His brother, Major William Lewis Cabell was confirmed as Brig Gen in January 1863 while (I assume) at Little Rock AR and transfered from chief quartermaster back to field command.
