Location of the 1858 battle?

Since nothing was left to mark the site of the battle, historians disputed its location. Mrs. James A. [Mary Jane (Moncrief) McDonald] Slaton (1857-1947), a Choctaw of Rush Springs, who was born at Fort Arbuckle, sent information to W.S. Nye that located “the battlefield was on the old Huntley farm.” The Huntley sisters (Gertrude and Agnes), born at Fort Sill, married Joe Abeen Graham (1876-1951) and John Chisum. Joe Graham’s dad was Jones Perry Graham of Bourland’s Regt. per Nye’s CARBINE AND LANCE, p21n (1937).

I interviewed this Joe Abeen Graham's daughters here in Duncan OK, who are cousins. This Joe Graham and John Chisum bought the 20 square mile Colbert Block Ranch that was owned by Nancy Bourland and Christopher Columbus Colbert. Through the years, I have interviewed and corresponded with many who worked on or were sharecroppers on the huge Graham-Chisum Ranch. Yes, I am closely related to both the Bourlannd-Colbert and the Graham-Huntley and have chapters on both of these families in different books.
