Re: Choctaw & Chickasaw Battalion

ken, my family settled near jesse, south of "new" stonewall, prior to 1900. my gr-gr-grandfather had been in bourland's regiment and was stationed on mud creek near present day ardmore during the war...i think the colbert place you all were near was probably closer to cochran's, near frisco. our place is south of fittstown on hwy 99 (377) about four miles...right on top of the "mountain," on the east side of the highway. i think winchester colbert's place and mill may have been closer to the courthouse and cochran's...there is another mill creek farther south, between fittstown and sulphur, but i think colbert's was, indeed, nearer to fittstown. the mill creek that flows through fittstown originates at byrd's mill spring, and the whole time i was growing up down there, we always called it byrd's mill creek, not just mill creek. that is the spring that feeds the entire town and a lot of pontotoc county their water today. i grew up on our homeplace which was on canyon creek. it headed up out of deadman's spring on the frank vincent ranch, and was supposed to be a chickasaw meeting ground.
