thank you for the reply! yes, our old home place was on canyon creek where it tracked down from the "mountains" to the south. the trail would have been definitely easier to get men and mounts up on the top of those limestone hills...i have hiked that route many times, from the Jesse Road section line to Canyon Springs (Deadman). we sold our place on Canyon Creek after i got out of college, years back, but have run cattle on our present ranch, which was my grandfather's, W.C.Wigley's, that is up on the Mountain on hwy 99. our Colbert Pasture and the old Colbert Spring is part of that place. i will check our abstract and find out which Colbert had the allotment for it. isn't history fantastic?
