wow! carroll, this is great information! it also explains, possibly, something that i found many years ago when i was about 8 years old...a metal mule harness medallion marked "US" that i dug out of the creek bank on our homeplace! i now wonder if it might have dated to use on the Dragoon Trail. fascinating. i would love to do more research on the route along canyon creek. if you could point me toward any reference material, i would sure appreciate it!
