Re: Woodward's 2nd Ky. Cavalry, CSA
Big G. Thanks for sharing your family story. I'm wondering if in all your information on Woodward's 2nd Cavalry if you have come across the name Joseph P. Staton. He was from Marshall Co Ky but had lived in Christian and Calloway counties. He was a field grade officer that according to family history had been with Lee and Woodward at Appomattox. He came home to Marshall County to find his wife was dead from exposure and his farm destroyed by Yankees. He discovered which Yankee that ran the raid and road into Illinois 2 days and 2 nights. He found and shot him and then escaped. He picked up his children and escaped to Tennessee where he was captured and was going to be hung in the morning. CSA vets in the town (I wish I knew the names of the town) freed him and helped him escape to Texas. Any information would be appreciated.
