He was 1st Lt.John F.Elliott 36 IL.Ink Co.K..He had been wounded and captured at Stones River the morning of Dec.31,1862. It is a long story here but, he escaped while held at Atlanta and made to Union lines just south of Rienzi, MS.Sent home on leave in Apr. returning to Murfreesboro in May.I don't know how long he was in Louisville but, he was interviewed by a German Paper while there. That is in Joe Rienharts(sp)book. In a letter written 1903 to his brother who was in the soldiers home at Danville ,IL mentions a place called Laurs Gully where he met another officer who knew his brother. I searched for Laurs Gully but, never found . Laurus is the genus for the Laurel tree.It is found in both KY. and TN..Thanks,You might want to e-mail me directly mppe54@yahoo.com
