The Sate of Tennessee Dept. of Archieves has a complete file on my Great Grandfather William Milton Patton. It describes how he was able to prove he was captured(with Morgan in Ohio) He had to furnish two witnesses to his capture. I have yet to go to Nashville to retrive the whole file. He fought for the South. He was with Morgan when they raided Mt.Sterling ,Lexington etc. in KY. I do not believe they ever made it to Louisville. My Great Grandfather was sent to Camp Douglas Chi. Ill. He was unable to attempt and escape because when he was ambushed his horse fell on him and broke both of his legs. They were never set properly and he was crippled for the rest of his life but he still lived a full life and died while living with my Grandparents in Nashville Tn. in 1911. His name is on a monument in Centennial Park across from Vandy, because he was one of the Vets. still alive when the monument was constructed. My Grandparents told me many stories about "Pap" as they called him.
