Thank you very much for your answers. Among the French-born soldiers who distinguished themselves in the Confederate Army, there were Prince de Polignac, Félix Dumonteil, Gaston de Coppens, Xavier Debray, Aristide Gerard, Pierre-François de Gournay, Charles de Vaux, Louis Lay... Many French chaplains served in Louisiana units, like Father Turgis, who was cited for bravery by Beauregard at Shiloh. I am looking for any info concerning these officers and the units more or less composed of Frenchmen (French Legion of New Orleans, Coppen's Zouaves, Avegno Zouaves, French militia companies of Mobile and Memphis...) Thank you so much for your help! I appreciate it very much.
Truly yours, FA
