Mr. Dumonteil: The Washington (DC) Post, July 31, 1882, reprinted a New Orleans Picayyune article saying that a New Orleans resident had seen a photo of Colonel Arabi, the leader of the Egyptian revolt, and said the photo looked exactly like his old friend Major Dumonteil. The article says Dumonteil kept a confectionary establishment in New Orleans (which I've independently confirmed) and was "an adventurous, daring fellow... a tall, swarthy fellow, with large, heavy features, but clear, brilliant eyes, and a heavy, black, moustache. In fact he had a rather Oriental cast of countennance..."
