I can not find Bayou Chemise on a current topo map but I believe it is the vicinity of Lake Verret. I have found a reference to a Pierre Daigle owning a plantation on Lake Verrett in 1850.
There are many Bayou Boeuf's in La and the one at Kramer La which empties into Lake Des Allemands does not connect to the Bayou Boeuf in Morgan City which is where the Yankees had a base in 1865. Also the Yankees controlled everything from Bayou Lafourche east to the Mississippi River but the confederates would raid west of Bayou Lafourche from the Atchafalaya Basin to steal horses and equipment from plantations. The whole region from Morganza to Morgan City along the Atchafalaya Basin was a no mans land.
I have also seen a reference to a 1866 newspaper the Houma Civic which references to Omer Boudreaux's legal troubles after the war. There may be a copy in the Houma Library.
I would like to know if you know if the fine was ever paid by the families of Omer Bourdreaux and others for the killing they participated in at Labadieville early in the war.
