Re: 1st. Mo.Cav. 1st. Mo.Brig. CSA

Jim & Harvey, I'm a little confused. Jim, you say the 1st Missouri Cavalry Regiment (CS)never served under any of the following generals, Cooper, Kirby Smith, Harrison, Heinman. etc.. However, (if I'm reading this right) Harvey states the 1st MO and the 1st MO Brigade in the time they operated in that theater were obstensible serving under them.

Also, Cooper - Commander primarily in Indian Territory and Harrison of Texas and also Hindman commanded troops in Indian Territory. Maybe, there's the possibility that James M. Ross started on with the 1st Missouri and then went with units in Texas and Indian Territory where his brothers were.

In the meantime, I've checked the information I have on his brothers, Benjamin Franklin Ross, George Washington Ross, and Thomas Jefferson Ross. It's a mixed bag.
I have Co. K, 9th Texas Cavalry - Thomas J. Ross
possibly 1st Cherokee Mounted Rifles or 9th TX Cav. for Benjamin and George.
Supposedly these three brothers fought with Confederate Cherokee units. I received this info from a descendant of Thomas J. Ross, but I don't know that she had definite proof. I haven't really checked into them. Just trying to find James Monroe Ross.

I really appreciate all your help and suggestions. Harvey, I did check out the sight you gave me, www.nps.gov/vick/, but didn't see anything familiar. Mostly initials, I do have other Ross's in the family and will check them. But, nothing jumped out at me. Sorry I'm not more up to date on my Ross's, but I actually only started researching this particuliar branch of my family about the end of May or so.

The only other person I've researched for the Civil War was my gg-grandfather on my fathers side, James P. Walker who died in September 1862 (enlisted June, 1862)in Helena Arkansas, probably of disease. He was part of the 6 Month 1st Battalion Arkansas Infantry, Company C. (Union)out of Independence Co., AR. I'm trying to see where he was buried. After he died, his widow took her 4 small sons to SE Missouri, Reynolds Co. ( I believe her Mother came from this area) Obviously, they kept their mouths shut what side he fought on, because the family didn't know anything about them other than they came from Alabama. I'm trying to find out where James Monroe Ross and his family lived in Reynolds Co. to see if he lived anywhere near my Mary (Cochran) Walker Elliott. They would have both been in Reynolds Co. at the same time. Judy
