An interesting set of dialogues about Guerrlla warfare, or as they called it in those days bushwhacking. There are many sides to the qestion of the Lawrence massacre (anytime you shoot down unarmed anyone thats a massacre) depending on which side you were on, still it didn't help the reble cause after Lawrence. Guerrilla warfare does that to people, I know that from my own experience. The fact that various Kansas regiments as well as the several Missouri regiments were labeled Jayhawkers were not labeled without reason. Of the Kansas regiments probably the 5th Kansas was the best led and trained. Like many other commands they have their own particular graves that members would rather not have brought to light. Mention was made of the 1st Arkansas Cavalry (US), an organization made of men primarily displaced from their homes in Northern Arkansas. As the war progressed blood feuds were the biggest motivator for both sides, and in their own distorted way of thinking, both sides justified their actions easily by the most common of denominators, 'them or us.' This sort of discussion is not something easily weighed in the light of right or wrong, there is no particular answer other than the fall back, you never kill to be killing, and you never kill the unarmed or innocent. Only the best led and well disciplined follow that law of warfare. We didn't do it with the indians, we didn't do it in the Phillipines, Korea or in Vietnam.
