When Jo Shelby took command of North East Arkansas in May 1864 for multiple purposes of bringing order into the area, raising troops and hindering Union movements, he wrote orders in the early stages to various commands to report to Col. McCray or Acting Brigadier General C. W Adams. In an order dated June 12, 1864 (not found in the OR's) Shelby orders the following Captains to report to Col. T. H. McCray at Jacksonport: Captains Hedrick, Mayo (whom we think was Capt Co. A, 47th Arkansas), Magoffin (whom Bruce Nichols has helped), Floyd, McAllister, Bowen, Reson, McMurry, and Davis. It is presumed these officers commanded formations in South Central and South East Missouri and called upon to report to Shelby. Help is thus needed in identifying who these officers are. This information will be used to annotate 'Shelby's Order Book.' I should add that this is Shelby's order book when he too command of the district of North East Arkansas. Half the material can be found scattered through out the separate parts of Volume's XLI and XXXIV, except this material is all together with additional material not found in the OR's, the order above mentioned being one of them.
