Re: Floyd

I believe this would actually refer to Major Enoch N Floyd of Crabtree's 46th Reg Arkansas Cav (Mounted Infantry actually). He may have been a captain at the time of the order?? Anyway, unit was raised in '64 in NE Arkansas and found its way into McCray's group for Price's raid according to some sources. See http://history-sites.com/cgi-bin/bbs53x/arcwmb/webbbs_config.pl?noframes;read=15221 on the Arkansas board for more info and references.

It appears that Enoch Floyd was initially a Captain of Co C 8th Arkansas Infantry.

Enoch N Floyd appears in the 1860 Arkansas Census in Healing Springs Township Independence County. He has a land grant purchase in the Batesville office May 1 1860. He is in the 1870 Census inMt Pleasent, Boone Co, Arkansas with wife Martha, dwelling 104 listed as a farmer. Nativity is placed in Tennessee with a birth abt 1830. 1900 Census has him still in Boone Co Arkansas with wife and reports a birthdate of Jul 1829 and a marriage year of 1851.

Enoch Floyd was elected Capt of (Old) Co H 8th Arkansas Volunteer Inf in July 1861. He is listed in his CSR as having enlisted intially July 6, 1861 for 12 months service. He became Capt of (New) Co C as the result of the consolidation of (old) Co E and (Old) Co H of the 8th Regiment when the state unit was mustered into Confederate service in Sept 1861. Floyd resigned his post with (New) Co C 8th Reg AR Inf on Oct 26 1861 and appears not to have gone east with the 8th Regiment. He was paroled at Jacksonport in 1865.

Arkansas pension records have the following:
Name: E. N. Floyd
Spouse Name: Martha Floyd
Residence Location: Boone, Arkansas
State Served From: Arkansas
Division: Cavalry
Company: B
Regiment: Boone
Vet Application Year: 1901
Death Date: 25 Jun 1904
Comments: widow applied 1904

At least one other researcher agrees with me, see grave marker at http://arkansasgravestones.org/view.php?id=97514

The question arises from the pension application did he spend time as a commander of a Co B in Crabtree's Regiment or another unit. Doubt we ever know for sure.
