Thanks for the kind words. The Veteran's Adminstration should provide the stone, but will need documentation before doing so. A professional with a PhD certainly understands the value of documentation and should have provided sources for you to check. As you can see, without it, we're having to guess what his source may have been.

For all we know, it may have been John Renick's grave marker, and that alone.

In terms of professional research, when faced with a choice of exchanging money for information, interest tends to wane rather quickly. Some folks would rather buy a case of Mountain Dews.

A few years ago I discovered that a co-worker's ancestor served with mine in the "Tuscaloosa Rifles" during the WBTS. When I shared this bit of info with him, he replied that he already knew more than he wanted to know about his family. Nothing personal -- that's just how he fells about that topic. George has since retired but still drops in to visit me from time to time.
