What I find strange is why my grandmother had the picture at all if Cook wasn't somehow related. However I think it is very possible, even likely, that he is somehow related to my father's side of the family rather than my mother's. My last name is Laws and listed on the roster for the 21rst, Mass., same Co. G, is a Samuel N. Laws. Like John L Cook, he mustered in as a Musician and out as a Principle Musicial. No way they couldn't have known each other. My half brother had an idea who John Cook might be. He asked what if the L in John L Cook actualy stood for Laws? Thinking maybe that he and Samuel were brothers and enlisted together. Not sure about back then but I know nowadays they won't put brother's in the same unit so, if John was Samuel's brother, he might have tagged on the name Cook to be able to be in the same unit and company with Samuel. Grasping at straws but not that far fetched a possability. There is some family resemblance to John Cook and myself. Hopefully I'll find something out as I know there was a John Laws in my father's line. I believe possibly a brother to Newton C. Laws my G-grandfather. Anyhow, I'm having fun searching and still learning more about the Patty side as well. Can't thank you enough for your help. Do you yourself have any connection to the Patty line?
