Re: Stolen Confederate Gravestones

George, on MS confederate graves registry it lists Winburn, Monteville H. Born: May 18, 1820 1st Lt; Co. A, 24th MS Inf McInnis Greene
Leakesville, MS Enlisted: Aug 22, 1861 Vernal, MS
Died: Sept 6, 1880 Discharged: Apr 26, 1865 Confederate
Leakesville, MS

IF he resigned so early on, why does it say discharged in 1865? I just found out Lieut Winburn was promoted to 1st Liet and in 1848 he was promoted to colonel in the MS militia, before the war he was the represenative for greene county in the MS house.
